Indicative weights based on steel density 7,850 kg/m³ (hollow-section and bar values calculated from nominal dimensions). For certified mass use mill test data.
How the steel weight calculator works
Steel weight is calculated from the cross-sectional area of the product and its length, using a standard steel density of 7,850 kg/m³. For standard hot-rolled sections — universal beams (UB), universal columns (UC) and parallel flange channels (PFC) — we use the published mass per metre to Australian Standard AS/NZS 3679.1. For hollow sections (RHS, SHS, CHS), plate and bar, the weight is calculated from the nominal dimensions you enter.
Add each product to your list to build a running total in kilograms and tonnes — useful for estimating, transport planning and budgeting. When you're ready, send the list to us and we'll come back with a competitive supply quote.
A note on accuracy
Calculated weights are indicative. Hollow-section, plate and bar figures are derived from nominal dimensions and ignore corner radii and rolling tolerances, so they may vary slightly from certified values. For exact mass, refer to the mill test certificate supplied with your order. Explore our full range on the steel products page.
