CheckerPlate
Steel checker plate (chequer plate) — slip-resistant floor plate for walkways, platforms, trailers and covers.

Checker plate, also spelt chequer plate and called floor plate, tread plate or diamond plate, is hot-rolled steel plate with a raised pattern on one face that gives a slip-resistant surface. It is the standard material for industrial walkways, platforms, stair treads, mezzanine floors, trailer and ute floors, pit and trench covers. We supply steel checker plate sheets from 3 to 12 mm thick to AS/NZS 3678 Grade 250, in 2400 × 1200, 3000 × 1500 and 6000 × 1500 sheets. It comes black or hot-dip galvanised, in project and bulk quantities, and can be cut, folded and drilled to your drawings. Mill test certificates are provided for every heat.

Checker Plate — Frequently Asked Questions
Is it checker plate or chequer plate?
Both spellings are used in Australia for the same product. Steel checker plate, chequer plate, floor plate, tread plate and diamond plate all describe hot-rolled plate with a raised slip-resistant pattern, made to AS/NZS 3678.
What thickness of checker plate do I need?
3 mm suits trailer floors and covers, 5 to 6 mm suits pedestrian walkways and platforms, and 8 to 12 mm is used for vehicle traffic, pit covers and heavy plant. Span between supports matters as much as thickness, so check with your engineer for platforms.
What size sheets does checker plate come in?
Standard sheets are 2400 × 1200 mm and 3000 × 1500 mm, with 6000 × 1500 mm in 5 mm and thicker. We can cut sheets to size or supply them fabricated as treads and covers.
