SHSSteel

Square hollow sections (SHS) — cold-formed structural tube for columns, posts and architectural framing.

Square hollow section (SHS) is cold-formed structural steel tube with a square profile, valued for its symmetry, clean appearance and load capacity in columns, posts and architectural framing. We supply SHS across the full size range from 20×20 to 400×400, in wall thicknesses to suit, manufactured to AS/NZS 1163 in Grade C350L0 and C450L0. Available black, painted or galvanised with material certification.

SHS Steel — Frequently Asked Questions

What SHS sizes are available?

Square hollow sections from 20 × 20 to 400 × 400 mm in wall thicknesses from 1.6 to 16 mm, to AS/NZS 1163 in Grade C350L0 and C450L0.

When should I use SHS instead of RHS?

SHS is symmetrical, so it suits columns, posts and bollards where load can come from any direction. RHS is used where bending is mainly in one direction, such as beams and frame rafters.

Can SHS be supplied galvanised?

Yes. SHS is available black, painted or pre-galvanised, and fabricated posts and frames can be hot-dip galvanised to AS/NZS 4680.
