SteelSheet

Mild steel and galvanised sheet steel — 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm and heavier sheet in standard sizes or cut to size, imported to Australian Standards.

Steel sheet is flat-rolled carbon steel under about 6 mm thick, used wherever a thin, formable and weldable material is needed: enclosures, ducting, guards, cladding substrates, cabinets, trays and general fabrication. We supply sheet steel in three main forms. Cold-rolled mild steel sheet gives a smooth, accurate surface for folding and painting. Galvanised steel sheet carries a zinc coating for corrosion resistance in exposed and damp conditions. Hot-rolled sheet is the economical choice for heavier gauges from 1.6 mm up to light plate. Sheets come in standard 2400 × 1200 and 3000 × 1500 sizes or cut to size, in project and bulk quantities, imported to AS 1397, AS 1595 and AS/NZS 1594 with mill test certificates. For heavy structural plate, floor plate and coated roofing sheet, see the full Steel Plate & Sheet range.

Product Range

01

Mild Steel Sheet

Cold-rolled mild steel sheet from 0.55 to 3.0 mm with a clean, flat surface for folding, punching, welding and powder coating.

02

Galvanised Steel Sheet

Hot-dip galvanised sheet to AS 1397 in Z275 to Z450 coating mass, for galvanised sheet metal work in exposed, wet and rural applications.

03

Hot-Rolled Sheet

Hot-rolled sheet to AS/NZS 1594 from 1.6 to 8 mm for heavier fabrication, trays, liners and brackets where surface finish is less critical.

04

1 mm to 6 mm Thicknesses

Common thicknesses of 1 mm, 1.6 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm and 6 mm stocked to order, with intermediate gauges available on mill runs.

05

Cut-to-Size Sheet

Guillotine shearing, laser and plasma cutting to your sizes or DXF files, so sheet arrives ready to fold or weld.

06

Coil for Volume Runs

Slit coil and cut-to-length sheet for fabricators and manufacturers running repeat volumes.

Steel Sheet Sizes & Thicknesses

Standard sheet steel we supply in project quantities. Thickness is base metal thickness; galvanised sheet adds the zinc coating on top. Sheets can be guillotined or profile-cut to size.

Steel Sheet — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between steel sheet and steel plate?

In Australia, flat steel under about 5 to 6 mm thick is called sheet, and anything thicker is plate. Sheet is made to AS/NZS 1594, AS 1595 or AS 1397; structural plate is made to AS/NZS 3678.

What sizes does sheet steel come in?

The standard sheet sizes are 2400 × 1200 mm and 3000 × 1500 mm, with 6000 × 1500 mm in heavier gauges. Thicknesses run from 0.55 mm to 8 mm, and any size can be cut from a full sheet.

Should I use galvanised or mild steel sheet?

Use galvanised sheet where the steel will be outdoors, damp or unpainted. Use mild steel sheet where it will be painted or powder coated, or where heavy welding would burn off a zinc coating.
