A hot-rolled structural steel section with an H-shaped cross-section, designed to carry vertical compressive loads as columns or vertical members.
Universal columns have a nearly square profile (flange width approximately equal to depth) which gives them good compressive capacity in both axes. This makes them ideal for building columns, vertical supports, and members subject to combined compression and bending. Sizes range from 100UC to 310UC. Manufactured to AS/NZS 3679.1.
