Frequently AskedQuestions
Answers to common questions about sourcing steel through Asia Pacific Industries.

What steel products do you source?
We source structural steel (beams, columns, channels, angles, plate), prefabricated components (trusses, frames, modules), custom fabrication to engineering drawings, steel pipe and tube (CHS, RHS, SHS), and steel plate and sheet in various grades — all through our network of established Asian manufacturing partners.
Do the products comply with Australian Standards?
Yes. All products are sourced to comply with relevant Australian Standards including AS 3679 (structural sections), AS 1163 (hollow sections), AS 4100 (steel structures), AS/NZS 3678 (structural plate) and AS 1397 (coated sheet). Our manufacturing partners hold ISO 9001, ISO 3834, ISO 630, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 17025 (testing laboratory) certifications. Mill Test Certificates (EN10204 3.1) are provided with every order.
How do you ensure quality for internationally sourced steel?
Our quality assurance process includes: Mill Test Certificates (MTC EN10204 3.1), third-party inspection through SGS, Bureau Veritas or TÜV, verification by BSI Assurance, ISO 17025-certified laboratory testing, and full traceability from mill to shipment. Our partners' facilities also hold CBAM compliance with ISO 14064 and ISO 14067 carbon footprint certifications.
What is the typical lead time?
Lead times depend on the product type, quantity and current production schedules. Typical lead times range from 6-12 weeks including manufacturing, quality inspection, shipping and customs clearance. We recommend engaging as early as possible in the project timeline to optimise scheduling.
Do you source steel for all Australian states?
Yes. We source steel for projects across all Australian states and territories — from metropolitan sites to remote regional locations. We coordinate with specialist logistics providers to support delivery from factory to project site.
How does pricing compare to domestic steel supply?
Total landed costs for internationally sourced steel are typically 15-35% below equivalent domestic supply, depending on the product type and quantity. The cost advantage is most significant for fabricated and prefabricated products where the labour cost differential is greatest.
What is the minimum order size?
Minimum order sizes depend on the product type and manufacturing requirements. We can typically accommodate orders from a single container load (approximately 20-25 tonnes) upward. Contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
Can your partners fabricate to our engineering drawings?
Yes. Our established manufacturing partners fabricate to your engineering drawings and specifications. We review drawings for manufacturability before production begins and coordinate quality control throughout the fabrication process.
What documentation do you provide?
We coordinate comprehensive quality documentation including Mill Test Certificates (MTC EN10204 3.1), welding procedure specifications, third-party inspection reports, dimensional check records, surface treatment certificates, photographic documentation and certificates of compliance.
